Please see our 'How It Works' page for a detailed explanation of our paddock-to-plate ordering process.
How long between ordering and delivery?
Our usual wait time is around 2–4 weeks for our Whole, Half and Mixed Quarter Beast selections or around 1-6 days for our 10kg Mixed Taster Box, depending if you choose collection or delivery. However, this may vary slightly throughout the year. The timing depends on how quickly we can combine customer orders to process a whole beast.

When will I find out the final cost of my beef order?
We require a deposit upfront before allocating your order to a beast for processing. Once the carcass has been weighed, we’ll email you with the confirmed dressed weight along with your total price and remaining balance payable.
You should receive our invoice approximately 7 days before your scheduled collection or delivery.
When ordering our 10kg Mixed Taster Box, a 50% deposit is required. Once the box is prepared and weighed, we will email you an invoice for the remaining balance plus any delivery costs, if required.
Where do you deliver?
We offer delivery to a wide variety of locations across South Queensland. Please email liz@buddenfamilybeef.com to confirm that we deliver to your location. Please see our Delivery and Delivery Policy pages for a detailed explanation of our delivery locations, pricing and Terms.
How does delivery work?
Please see our Delivery and Delivery Policy pages for a detailed explanation of our delivery process and Terms.
What is Dressed Weight?
Dressed Weight, also known as carcass weight or hook weight, is the weight of the beast after it has been slaughtered - with the head, hide, hooves, organs and blood removed.
Over the 7-day dry aging period, natural shrinkage occurs. Weight reduction during further processing (butchering) is both expected and essential, as large bones along with trimming of unusable excess fat are removed.
How is my beef packaged?
We offer custom packaging options to suit our customers preferences. We can package your beef into freezer bags or vacuum sealed bags.
PLEASE NOTE: This option is only available for pick up and local delivery orders and those delivered to Miles and Roma on a Friday. Orders delivered to other locations will be vacuum sealed only.
How long will my beef last?
If your packaged beef is kept sealed and stored in your freezer at a consistent temperature, it will stay fresh for up to 12 months.
For best results, defrost your meat slowly in the refrigerator overnight before cooking. We don’t recommend using hot water, a microwave, or placing it on warm surfaces, as this can affect the flavour and tenderness.

Is your beef grain finished?
Yes.
Grain finishing cattle produces beef with qualities that many people love at the dinner table. The process brings out richer flavour, improved tenderness, and a more consistent eating experience across every cut.
1. Richer Marbling
Grain finishing produces higher levels of intramuscular fat (marbling), which is the hallmark of premium beef. Marbling adds juiciness, tenderness, and flavour - especially in premium cuts like eye fillet, ribeye and porterhouse.
2. Tender Texture
A high-energy grain diet aids weight gain and promotes muscle growth with less connective tissue. Combined with the marbling from grain finishing, this produces beef that is naturally softer and more enjoyable to eat.
3. Consistent Quality
With a controlled diet, grain-finished beef offers a consistent texture, flavour, and appearance - so every cut delivers a uniform eating experience.
4. Balanced Flavour
Grain finishing gives beef a milder, buttery taste compared to the sometimes grassy, gamey notes of grass-fed beef. This smooth flavour is preferred by many steak lovers.
5. Juiciness
The higher fat content retains moisture during cooking, producing more flavourful, succulent beef every time.
6. Higher Yield of Premium Cuts
Grain finishing often results in a greater proportion of prime cuts with excellent marbling, making it especially appealing for customers seeking steakhouse quality beef at home.
Cancelling my order
At Budden Family Beef, we’re committed to sustainable practices and minimising waste. Our beef is produced to order. Unlike supermarkets, we don’t put unsold meat “back on the shelf” to resell.
When you place an online order, a 50% deposit secures your allocation, with the balance due before delivery. Each order is carefully matched to a specific beast, or allocated to a beast already partly reserved for other customers. We process our cattle only to meet actual customer orders, ensuring nothing goes to waste. We take cancellations very seriously - our cattle are simply too precious to go to waste.
If you request to cancel your order after paying your deposit, the deposit will be forfeited and the meat will not be provided. Please only place an order when you are confident in your decision.
Is my deposit refundable?
Your 50% deposit secures your allocation and allows us to slaughter and process an animal specifically for you. Because of this, if you request to cancel your order after paying your deposit, the deposit will be forfeited and the meat will not be provided. Please only place an order when you are confident in your decision.
